Siamsa Tíre shines its light on the Arts online

Siamsa Tíre announces an exciting programme of online events, supporting local and national artists and audiences during continued COVID restrictions.

2 April 2021: Siamsa Tíre today announces an exciting programme of online events, supporting both local and national artists and its audiences as we all continue to protect each other from COVID by maintaining restrictions. Partnering with theatre companies and artists within the community and across Ireland, Siamsa Tíre will present a varied online programme of theatre drama, classical music, traditional folk dance and music workshops and performances starting in April, running right through to the end of this summer. All of the National Folk Theatre events will be closely connected to key celebrations within the Celtic Calendar including Bealtaine, Litha (Summer Solstice), Lughnasa and Samhain.

A key focus for its upcoming programme is the National Folk Theatre’s summer programme which will include re-imagined Festival of Folk offerings working within the restrictions.  Siamsa Tíre is also announcing a new Youth Arts Festival that will be programmed by young people for young people.  The festival will run events celebrating Litha (Summer Solstice), a focal point within our Festival of Folk for National Folk Theatre Training Academy students.

Roisin McGarr, Executive Director Siamsa Tíre comments, “The continued restrictions have been a constant challenge for artists and the arts sector at large.  We have used this as an opportunity to find different ways of supporting Irish artists locally and nationally, presenting our own programmes and supporting our local community through the arts.  We have embraced technology to help us collaborate with artists and connect with our audiences to great success. We do of course look forward to re-opening and welcoming back our communities but we will continue to find ways to share the arts and our cultural heritage online until then.”
