Rough Magic Theatre Company and Kilkenny Arts Festival presents a vivid, fun, contemporary Irish staging of Shakespeare’s celebrated screwball comedy
Directed by Ronan Phelan, Rough Magic’s vivid, contemporary staging of Shakespeare’s celebrated screwball comedy is a co-production with Kilkenny Arts Festival 2019 where it premiered this summer.
On the deck of a deluxe mobile home, friends gather for a week of cocktail-infused debauchery, bad dancing and questionable gender politics.
As the party grows, two star-crossed couples emerge; just as malicious rumour and pointed lies threaten to tear them apart.
Rough Magic returns to Siamsa Tíre with this vivid festive production of deception and excess that asks: can we ever truly know the people that we love?

★★★★ ‘...a play where love, honour, villainy and even grief become a kind of public performance, which the ensemble lustily and cleverly embrace, fuzzing over any misgivings by getting everybody drunk on comedy.’Irish Times
‘We don’t often get to see this particular Shakespeare play so it’s a pleasure to have it so well served in this boisterous and intelligent production...The business of comedy romance hasn’t changed that much in four centuries, as we laugh at the same jokes.... A hugely enjoyable and timeless treat.’Irish Independent
