Free Radicals Youth Theatre follows on from Free Range Youth Theatre, which was officially launched in Siamsa Tíre in September 2008 and was set up by a group of people from Tralee, in association with Siamsa Tíre, who felt that there was a real lack of such opportunities for young people in the area. The founder members of Free Range Youth Theatre were: Joe O’Brien, Michael O’Halloran, Bryan Carr, and Deirdre O’Halloran in association with Catríona Fallon and Fran O’Connor of Siamsa Tíre.
