For over a decade Cork Film Centre has been supporting artistic use of the moving image, and providing much-needed exposure to artists, especially in their early years of development. Pieces of Eight is a richly diverse selection of striking and distinctive works from emerging artists and recent graduates, which more than vindicate Cork Film Centre's ongoing commitment to fostering new creative visions.

Taking Liberties

New Art Work by Sandra Minchin

21.11.09 - 21.12.09

Sandra Minchin first exhibited in the GALLERY |Siamsa Tíre in January 2009 as part of the 'Fables project - an exhibition of contemporary Chinese and Irish work that was shown in Tralee, Shanghai and Cork.

Her current exhibition is a solo show that consists of installation work, large scale paintings and video work.

'Taking Liberties' deals with subconscious fears. She uses video, photography, objects and installation to convey how people are affected by life experiences. This body of work is a direct response to the artist's personal experience of illness and references the martyred, executed, tortured body. This installation evokes the fear of the unknown, while simultaneously concealing the pain and fear of the sufferer.
