SUMMER 2010
NATIONAL FOLK THEATRE INTERNSHIPS
As part of the preparation for the annual National Folk Theatre season, each performer on the Siamsa stage has had years of rigorous training. Young performers learn their skills at the National Folk Academies, until such time as they move on to a graduate training class and then eventually the Community Cast. Here they have an opportunity to become part of the professional company that develops work year round.
As part of an ongoing commitment to support emerging traditional arts practitioners, the National Folk Theatre also offers a series of internships to assist young and developing artists. Each intern spends 15-20 weeks working with the National Folk Theatre, developing and honing their skills.
This year, 10 emergent practitioners were selected for the Internship/Fast Track programme. These include fast track performers: (Siobhán Clifford, Claire Slattery, Honor Hurley, Jamie Flannery and Liam Antaine O’Cathasaigh), Fast Track Musicians: (Áine Murray, James Dillon and Greta Curtin) and Technical Intern (Maeve Bolger) who trained in technical theatre and lighting.
One Professional Performer placement has also been offered to an emerging performer who has exhibited exceptional talent and promise. This year the Professional Placement was awarded to Helena Brosnan. who will join the Professional Company from June to September.
