DANCER IN RESIDENCE
Catherine Young is delighted to return to Siamsa Tíre as Dancer in Residence.
During her residency, Catherine has researched and developed new choreographic works as well as developing her recently established company, YoCo. She also continues as Artistic Director of Kerry Youth Dance Theatre and will premier new work at Siamsa in 2012.
Catherine has collaborated with artists Ryan Langley, Stacey Printz and Lacina Coulibaly among others and shared work/works-in-progress as part of the Curtain Raiser initiative earlier this year. Catherine also curated "nMotion" a three day dance festival/symposium which took placein March.
CATHERINE YOUNG - BRIEF BIOG
Catherine completed her MA in Contemporary Dance at the University of Limerick in 2005, preceded by eight years training and performing in dance and theatre in San Francisco. She has also studied/worked with Printz Dance Project (USA) PURe Dance Company (USA), Wendy Houstoun (UK), Henry Montes (UK), Retina Dance Company (UK/Belgium), Lacina Coulibaly (Congo Ba Teria Dance Company - Africa), Ousseni Sako (Salia Ni Seydou Dance Company - Africa), Fabulous Beast Dance Company (Irl), Siamsa Tire (Irl) and Hofesh Schecter Company (UK) among others.
Catherine is currently Artistic Director of Kerry Youth Dance Theatre (www.kdyt.ie) which was nominated for the Kerry Arts & Culture Award in 2010 and is also Artistic Director of YoCo (www.yoco.ie) her professional dance company established in 2010. She is a founding member of DARI (Dance Artists in Regional Ireland), on the Board of Dance Research Forum Ireland and is a regular guest lecturer in African Dance at the University of Limerick. Catherine is also a certified and practicing Yoga teacher.
During the six month residency, Choreographer Catherine Young will be working with a number of local and professional dance artists and groups in the county which will culminate in a three day festival/symposium of dance. The Dancer in Residence Programme at Siamsa Tire is a partnership project between Kerry County Council, Siamsa Tíre, Kerry Local Sports Partnership and Catherine Young and is funded by the Arts Council.
Professional Contemporary Dance Class
Every Tuesday 10am-12pm at Siamsa Tire (professional dancers only)
Fee: €12 /10
Catherine’s classes draw from her studies of different styles of dance and begin with a deep yoga and somatic warm up with elements of Klein Technique. Her classes are highly physical with a strong focus on alignment, body awareness, sensation and rhythm. Places can be booked with the Box Office on 066) 7123055.
