REBEKAH WALL: BREAKING BREAD
23 April to 9 June 2012
Rebekah Wall is a Kerry based practicing artist whose work imitates the artist’s struggle to maintain a sustainable living. In an attempt to celebrate artistic innovation she has created an alter ego named Sally Murphy who is a subsistence hunter and artist collecting materials for her work from the land and sea.
Using the web as a platform, Sally Murphy developed a large international fan base with her witty and evocative stories of folklore and Irish traditions; Breaking Bread is a catalogue and celebration of these stories.
Rebekah Wall’s work to date is not only provocative but uses the web as a stage for performance that defies traditional definitions. She continues to explore a variety of new socially engaged interdisciplinary projects in order to provoke, question and explore how art makes connections with people’s everyday lives.
In February 2011, Rebekah collaborated with other Kerry based artists in creating an art studio facility known as ‘Babytag’ which has been responsible for several pop up galleries and also established a permanent base for much needed studios in the county.
Rebekah has exhibited throughout Ireland, France, Germany, Italy, Canada and the United States and is currently artist in Residence at Limerick School of Art and Design.
