"The arduous procedure of making the drawings is disproportionate to the brief moment of the event the drawings are about. Movements and rhythms contrast the mechanical and deliberate drawing method. Paradoxically I draw the sky with a ruler and I enjoy part obscuring the image with rain on glass or blowing leaves.
The large Chiaroscuro drawings are complemented by Landmarks a series of small four plate colour etchings. Both etchings and drawings depict the landscape around Brandon in West Kerry where I live."
Niall Naessens is an artist printmaker who has settled in Lios na Caolbhaí in Brandon, Co Kerry. Niall is an accomplished etcher and has shown his work extensively in Ireland and abroad. Recent solo shows include Graphic Studio Dublin 2010 and The Ink Shop, Ithica, N.Y. 2012. He won the Norman Acroyd prize for etching at Impressions print show Galway in 2011. Niall is currently completing a Masters of Fine Art at the National College of Art & Design.
The artist will give a talk on his work in the Gallery at Siamsa Tíre on Saturday 14th of July 2012 at 2pm.
