Indulge in a season of Schubert!  Our Schubert Sessions include three wonderful concerts under the artistic direction of concert pianist Fionnuala Moynihan.

Schubert’s 1827

In 1827 Schubert composed some of his most iconic and celebrated compositions. Dr. Fionnuala Moynihan felt it would be a wonderful project to perform these works in a concert series. The compositions  include  the much-loved Impromptus D.899 and D.935 for solo piano, the monumental song cycle Winterreise for voice and piano and the celebrated Piano Trios op.99 and op.100 for piano, violin and cello.  Fionnuala’s goal to perform all five of these treasured works in one concert series has become a reality due to the inspirational support and enthusiasm of the prestigious Siamsa Tíre and the kind support of the Arts Council of Ireland.

The series will consist of three full-length recitals. The opening concert will take place on Sunday October 8th at 3pm and will feature both sets of Impromptus for solo piano performed by Dr Fionnuala Moynihan.

The second concert will take place on Saturday November 4th at 8pm. Internationally acclaimed, Kerry-born baritone Gavan Ring will join Fionnuala to perform the complete Winterreise song cycle.

The final concert of the series will take place on Tuesday December 5th at 2.30pm and will include both piano trios performed by violinist Mia Cooper (leader of the RTE Concert Orchestra), Ailbhe McDonagh (celebrated soloist and chamber musician) and internationally acclaimed concert pianist Dr. Fionnuala Moynihan.

Schubert’s compositional style is lyrical, intriguing, virtuosic, inspirational and uplifting. It is a concert series not to be missed. Featuring Ireland’s most celebrated performers in one of Ireland’s most iconic and beautiful concert venues this series promises to be one of the highlights of the concert season.

Please Note: The first and second concerts in the series have been scheduled as afternoon performances to facilitate students and those wishing to travel during daylight hours.
