In exploring the use of music in Samuel Beckett’s work, Gare St Lazare has created an entirely original performance that defies easy description. A meditation, a celebration, an interpretation; Here All Night’s non-linear musical narrative frees us to go where the words and music bring us and offers another way to access both Beckett’s world and our own.
Conceived and created by Judy Hegarty Lovett, Conor Lovett, Paul Clark and Caoimhín Ó Raghallaigh. Featuring texts and music by Samuel Beckett and an original artwork by Brian O’Doherty.
Performance ensemble includes : Chris Allan - Cello, John Paul Gandy - Piano, Conor Lovett - Spoken Word, Melanie Pappenheim - Singer and Caoimhin O'Raghallaigh - Hardanger d'Amore.
The work includes original music by Samuel Beckett from the novel Watt, as well as songs, poems and texts by Beckett with original music composed and arranged by Paul Clark (The Clod Ensemble).
Here All Night was originally commissioned by Beckett Project Paris and first presented in a work-in-progress performance at Le Centre Culturel Irlandais in Paris in 2010 that was also supported by Culture Ireland. In 2013 the show was performed at Brighton Festival, at White Light Festival 2015 at The Lincoln Centre in New York and at Beckett In London 2016 at The Print Room in London and, in October 2016 again with the support of Culture Ireland, Here All Night was performed at Arts Emerson's Paramount Theatre in Boston, USA.
