Culture Night will be a busy one in Siamsa Tíre with a great range of events for all!
Switch on Culture Night with venues and public spaces across the island of Ireland as they open their doors to host a programme of free late-night entertainment, as part of an all-island celebration of arts, heritage and culture, now in its thirteenth year.
Siamsa Tíre is looking forward to providing an event-filled evening as part of Culture Night 2017! This year’s line-up ranges across the artforms from song, music and dance to visual arts, with something to appeal to all ages.
We’re delighted that this year’s Culture Night will include choral performances by two Kerry choirs, Opus 96 and the Ardfert Singers along with members of the National Folk Theatre Choir. The eclectic musicians of the Welcoming The Stranger band will perform some of their rousing and energetic repertoire in the foyer and this will be followed by music from local musicians Isaac and Nick.
Artist-in-Residence, Karen Hendy, working with some other local artists, will engage members of the public in the creation of an innovative visual art installation piece in the round gallery (suitable for 8 years and up), and younger children can work with artist, Marie Brennan to decorate a mural, created by artist Lisa Fingleton, with flowers and butterflies.
The highlight of Culture Night at Siamsa Tíre will be an evening performance of dance under the direction of the wonderful dance artist and choreographer, Catherine Young. Following the success of last year's Welcoming the Stranger dance performance by Catherine Young, Catherine and her company will return with a new dance show inspired by Ireland's new communities, their music, dance and songs - a show that looks at the notion of Home and where that is. This new work will feature an international cast of dancers and musicians and span a myriad of dance styles with the heart-warming, moving, dynamic and energetic choreography Young always delivers. Not to be missed. This performance is supported and funded by Siamsa Tíre, Kerry County Council, Creative Ireland and The Arts Council.
Culture Night is brought to you by the Department of Arts Heritage & the Gaeltacht in partnership with regional arts offices, local authorities and cultural organisations throughout the island of Ireland.
